Today's painting was much more successful, in my opinion. It was my first attempt at painting on a masonite panel. It had a very different feel than canvas, but I loved it. I chose another photograph that I took at the Santa Barbara courthouse, since I really liked how the other one turned out.
I thought I would try my hand at another night scene. It's not my favorite one, but I did learn a few things that will help me next time.
I'm working on a series of paintings now that will all be painted pretty quickly. I want the brushstrokes to be very loose, and I want the colors to be more vibrant than they would be in real life. I also want to chose subjects that have extreme dark and light...
I painted this from a photo I took at the Santa Barbara Courthouse, when Zach and I were there getting our marriage license. Mostly I just wanted to paint the sunlight on the bushes, it just looked fun to me.
