The original title for this painting was going to be "Butternut and Leek" because that's what I meant to buy. The thing is I had never bought a leek before, I didn't really know what one looked like...so I trusted Albertson's when they told me that this fennel was a leek.
This is how cooking dinner went that night:
"Zach can you google how to chop a leek?" "wait, my leek looks nothing like that"...
First Friday was last night, and it went pretty well :) I sold a couple of paintings, and got to hang out with fellow artist Kim Snyder , a local celebrity of sorts :) for good reason since her paintings are amazing!
I thought it would be fun to try a still life using the palette knife... the first photo is the finished painting and the one below it is how I started it out. I had a specific idea of how I wanted it to turn out, and I thought the best way to accomplish that would be by having a pretty good underpainting first. I don't really like leaving parts of the board exposed, and by painting it all in...
