I decided to take another shot at this charming courtyard in Santa Barbara. I experimented with one of my very dark panels again, it switches up my way of thinking about the painting, so I think it's helpful.
One of the best things about living in a little beach town is all the brightly colored houses around :) If I owned a house here I would have such a hard time deciding on what color it should be!
I'm getting a little more used to this whole plein air thing, there are parts of it that I love and parts that I could do without....like people warning me that I'll probably have ticks on me from standing in the grass. I'm thankful for the warning, but then my ankles itched for the rest of the painting because I was sure there were ticks on me! I couldn't find any.

I'm working on a series of these interior scenes. I've always been attracted to this type of subject, but I don't always have a chance to paint them. A trip to the castle was a perfect solution! I liked this scene because of the orange glow coming from the light in the room, and the cool blue light from outside being reflected on the furniture.
